Fynd A Way

ABOUT SANDY

I am an “airforce brat”. My father was a fighter pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force. I grew up in Europe and then moved back to Canada for high school.

I graduated from college with a degree in Journalism. I worked for 13 years as a television news reporter. I went to Japan for a year and wrote for the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. My last position was working as a National Reporter for the Global Television Network.

I left television and started a 15 year journey in the world of ultrarunning, specifically desert ultrarunning. I began to write about my experiences. Then I worked for a speaking agency and gave presentations on my desert racing. Sponsorships rolled in and I was able to make a meager living.

I moved from Canada to the United States in 2008. I lived in Florida for 12 years. Upon retiring I moved to Colorado. I live in Westcliffe with my husband Jim, our two dogs and two cats.

I had burned out on running in 2015. I had been racing for 21 years, training 6 days a week. And then out of the blue, at 60 years old, I felt the desire to run return. So, in April, 2023 I began planning to compete in a 100 mile race. I had not put on my running shoes for so much as a short jog in 8 years. Here we go again. I feel like I am on another steep learning curve to get myself back into shape. I may be 60, but I am willing to start a new chapter! I will be writing about my training and racing as a senior and hope to encourage others to FYND A WAY to pursue their own goals.
